MOUNT DORA
Train and Pontoon Boat Ride
Saturday, October 10, 2015
Welcome to the Mt. Dora Historical Day of Fun
The day will start at the Eisenhower Recreation Center at 8 am and proceed to Mt Dora via lake frontage and back roads. Upon arriving, half the group will board Pontoon Boats, offered by Premier Boat Tours and Rusty Anchor Boat Tours. During their 90 minute trip to Tavares, Certified Captains will share stories past and present of Lake Dora's history and then onto the most beautiful mile of water for flora and fauna: The Dora Canal.
The second half of the group will board the Orange Blossom Cannonball Express one of the very few remaining 1907 steam locomotives still running a weekly schedule and they also will travel to Tavares. During their ride this group will learn the history of this exciting Movie Train.
When the first group (Pontoon Boats) arrives in Tavares there will be a 30 minute ice cream or drink stop to wait for the second half of our group (The Orange Blossom Cannonball Express).
The First group will return to Mt. Dora via the Orange Blossom Cannonball Express while the second group after their ice cream stop returns to Mt Dora via Pontoon Boats.
A buffet lunch will be awaiting each group on their return at Mt Dora's most historical hotel: The Lakeside Inn. This is the oldest continuously operating hotel in the state of Florida established in 1883.
Lunch - a "Backyard Picnic" includes:
-
Pulled pork and Roasted Chicken
-
Boston Bake Beans, Corn, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw
-
Coffee or Tea
The day will be approximately 6hrs.
